A Visual Arts teacher of many years’ experience, my passion has always been painting.
After completing a Diploma of Art Education at the National Art School (East Sydney Tech) and Alexander Mackie College (now Uni of NSW Art and Design), graduating with Distinctions in Painting and Drawing, I exhibited through several Sydney galleries and was a finalist in many major art competitions including the Archibald, Sulman and Portia Geach Prizes, painting under my maiden name of Suzanne French-Kennedy. My recent work emphasises the emotional, atmospheric rendering of aspects of the Australian landscape and environment. The picture plane is emphasised through a rich surface texture and layering of media, while atmosphere is created through tonal contrast and depth of colour. I have recently held a solo show at Tortoiseshell Gallery, Elizabeth Bay, a group show at Balmainspace, Balmain and a group show at the Ceramic Break Sculpture Park, Warialda. I regularly exhibit with The Ku-ring-gai Art Society and at the Kings School Art Show, Hunters Hill Art Prize, Warringah Art Prize, Kogarah Art Prize, Combined Art Societies of Sydney Art Awards (at the Maritime Museum Darling Harbour), the Royal Easter Show and several other venues and galleries around Sydney. |
